SERVETTE FCCF – FC ZURICH 1-2 (1-0): THE SERVETTIENNES WERE UNABLE TO KILL THE MATCH!
Servette FCCF lost 1-2 this Sunday afternoon against Zurich at the Stade des Trois-Chêne. This is a very frustrating result as the Servettiennes could have killed the match in the first half.
Football is a sport where the appearance and result of a match can change extremely quickly. This top-of-the-table encounter between Servette FCCF and FC Zurich was no exception to the rule. This time, it was to the detriment of the Servettiennes. In front of more than 1,800 spectators, José Barcala’s players totally dominated the first half. The opening goal, logically, by Imène El Ghazouani, surprised no one (8th). Servettiennes could have doubled, tripled or even quadrupled the lead if Imane Saoud (14th and 15th) and Cassandra Korhonen (37th) had been more precise. Geneva played well, controlled the ball, and the vast majority of people present in the stadium could not imagine any other scenario than a victory for the locals.
The only ones who did not believe it were Zurich. They came back in the second half with more enthusiasm and they began to press very high against Servettiennes who no longer knew how to properly get out of their defensive zone. The Swiss-Germans began to approach Tinja-Riika Korpela’s goal. Then, one after the other, FC Zurich struck a big blow. Eads (65th) then Kovacevic (68th) crucified Geneva’s helpless and disorganized.
The SFCCF then pulled itself together, José Barcala made several changes to breathe new energy into his team. The Servettiennes pushed and created many opportunities. Imène El Ghazouani, twice, tried her luck from afar, but the ball was not on target. Daïna Bourma had the ball for the equalizer but she saw her shot stopped on the line by a Zurich defender. We must give credit to the Swiss-Germans that they knew how to play the shot perfectly to take the lead in the match and they were very compact and united in their 20 meters. Over the whole match, the visitors did not steal the match but the Servettiennes can blame themselves for not having been able to kill the match in the first half. The Grenat fall back to third place with 15 points and see St-Gall and Zurich pass them with their 16 points. The next match for the SFCCF will be played next Saturday in Lucerne, from 4 p.m., as part of the round of 16 of the Swiss Cup.
