FRAUENTEAM THUN BERNER-OBERLAND – SERVETTE FCCF: LAST TRIP IN REGULAR SEASON
After a tough week, Servette will travel this Saturday at 5:30 p.m. to Stadion Lachen to face Thun before the break.
Last week was as trying as it was satisfying for the Garnets. An English week with three matches in the space of a week but above all three victories including a qualification for the Swiss Cup final. The Servettians also beat FC Basel at home last Saturday. A victory which allows them to confirm their first place in the championship with 4 points ahead of Zürich two days before the end of the regular season.
This weekend they will meet Frauenteam Thun Berner-Oberland, bottom of the championship. The Barcala players won with a score of 3-1 during the first clash last November. In the first half, Simonsson found the back of the net twice, before Mendes widened the gap. The reduction of Minnig’s score to the 69th will not change anything and the Garnet will emerge victorious.
With the end of the regular season approaching, it’s time to take out the calculator. In AWSL, there are still two matches to play. The Servettians are guaranteed to finish in the top 3 at the end of the regular season. YB, currently fourth, is 8 points behind the Garnet. For Jose Barcala’s players, a result similar to or better than that of Zürich would allow them to validate first place in the regular season. This, before crossing swords with the Zurich women to close the first phase of the championship.
In the red zone of the ranking, everything still remains to be done for Thun, Rapperswil and Aarau. With two days to go, the three teams are in one place. Slight advantage for Aarau which has 8 points against 7 for Rapperswil and Thun. For these teams, the last two matches will be “finals” to reach the famous playoffs. Thun will host Servette this Saturday before facing GC from Zürich. Rapperswil will host FCZ before traveling to Basel while Aarau will host GC before a trip to St. Gallen. Nothing will be easy for these three teams who will put their hearts to work in order to participate in the final phase of the championship.
