FC RAPPERSWIL-JONA – SERVETTE FCCF 0-2 (0-1)

Servette FCCF responded perfectly by beating Rapperswil-Jona 2-0 this Saturday. The Genevans played a very controlled match, without ever being worried by the Swiss-Germans. Imène El Ghazouani and Maéva Clémaron both scored a goal to offer the first three points of the season to their colors.

The Servettiennes made the long trip to Rapperswil this Saturday. Not spared by injuries (Nakkach, Korhonen, Giménez, Jonusaite or Serrano), José Barcala had to deal with a reduced squad. Nevertheless, one of the strengths of the SFCCF this season lies in the depth of its bench. And this also allows the young talents of the team to shine! Thus Amina Muratovic (18 years old) was put in the starting line-up in the Geneva defence while Chiara Wallin (17 years old) came on in the 34th minute to replace Imane Saoud who went off injured. We hope that things will go well for the Moroccan international striker and that she will be back very soon.

The Grenat immediately set the pace in the game and the first goal came quickly. Imène El Ghazouani scored her first goal with her new colours after being able to exploit a header from Paloma Lázaro in the box (8th minute). Servette FCCF never stopped putting pressure on the opposing defence but struggled in the final move. Tactically, they were doing just fine, but the shots did not find the net or it was too easy for the opposing goalkeeper.

In the second half of the match, Geneva’s attacks intensified, and it ended up paying off. Thanks to a recovery by Joana Marchão, Paloma Lázaro was able to break into the box. After eliminating a defender, she perfectly served Maéva Clémaron who did not need to be asked twice to light up the Rapperswil goal (46th). The Servettiennes put the nail in the coffin at the start of the second half to put themselves out of harm’s way. They could have made the score worse but the long-range attempts by Daïna Bourma, Joana Marchão or the lob by Paloma Lázaro did not shake the net.

Regardless of the score, the players played this match very well. And the main thing is there: to score the first points of the season! Now that this first victory is in the bag, Servette FCCF will be able to attack this new week of preparation, in view of the clash against YB next Saturday at home, with full confidence!

But before playing their third Women’s Super League match, the Genevans have a date with Marseille for a friendly match on Wednesday evening at the Stade des Trois-Chênes.
