AS ROME – SERVETTE FC: THE MATCH OF A LIFETIME

Servette flew to Rome this Wednesday morning to play one of the most prestigious matches in its more than 130-year-old history.

It’s a match apart in a season and in the lives of many players, managers and supporters. Servette FC are preparing to face AS Roma in their home stadium at the Stadio Olimpico for the 2nd day of the Europa League group stages.

Let’s start with a number: 1. This is indeed the first time in the history of Servette FC that the club faces an Italian team in the European Cup. Surprising when we know that this AS Rome – Servette FC will be the 109th European match for the Grenat. This adds to the prestige of the meeting.

Released after their victory against Lausanne in the derby, René Weiler’s players know that they have absolutely nothing to lose on Thursday evening. Driven by more than 700 Genevans who will travel and by an entire city who will follow the match (a fan zone is organized by the club) remotely, there will only be positives to take away from this match. Opposite, AS Rome is (very) solid: Lukaku, Dybala and Paredes on the pitch and a certain José Mourinho as coach. No one therefore expects a positive result from CFS. You will have to play your luck bravely and not regret anything.

Nearly 60,000 people are expected at the Stadio Olimpico. The SFC has never played in its history in front of such a crowd and this will also be a first. The atmosphere will be beautiful and we will also have to know how to take advantage of it without being paralyzed by the stakes.

As for Servette FC, a delegation of 23 players left on Wednesday morning. The group will live together for five days since they will not return to Geneva before the night of Sunday to Monday. On the program: a Rome-Milan train trip on Friday followed by a bus trip to Lugano where the SFC will play the 10th day of the Credit Suisse Super League on Sunday at 2:15 p.m. Training is planned on site on Saturday during the day.

Whether you are traveling to Rome or following the match remotely, we hope that you will be able to enjoy this historic match and that you will support the team for this match that everyone will remember for a long time.
