Semen Novikov Wins Bulgaria’s First Olympic Title at Paris 2024
Semen Novikov won the gold medal in the final of the Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling tournament in the 87 kg category.
The Bulgarian national wrestler decisively defeated the world silver medalist in the 82 kg category, Alireza Mohmadipiani from Iran, with a score of 7-0, bringing Bulgaria its first Olympic title from Paris 2024. Semen Novikov was flawless throughout the match against the Iranian wrestler. The Bulgarian’s activity was recognized by the judges, and he was given the opportunity to attack twice from the ground position. In the first attack, he scored 3-0 by lifting Mohmadipiani, and in the second, he added another point. Novikov maintained control until the end, driving his opponent off the mat three times for an additional three points, securing a final score of 7-0 and Bulgaria’s first Olympic wrestling title in 24 years.
